Modica Bros Tire and Wheel Superstores are pleased to announce their second annual “Food Drive to Can Hunger” event starting on November 24th and continuing through December 22nd at all of their locations in southeast Texas.  Once again, as a special incentive, anyone donating non-perishable or canned good items will receive $5 off an oil change plus a free tire rotation.

“We just want to give back to the community,” shares general manager Lanny Graham.  “We love servicing the tires, wheels, and other automotive needs of the people of our community and this is just another need we can help meet.  We want all of our team members to go above and beyond everyday and this “Food Drive To Can Hunger” all started because one of our managers had the desire to help others out.”

The first Modica Bros food drive began with sales manager Marianna Bass.  “Christmas and the holidays are about sharing and giving, and sometimes we get caught up in holiday stress and only extend that good will to family and friends.  At Modica Bros we wanted to get involved and do something that could impact individuals beyond our own circles of influence,” Marianna states with a smile.  “We just wanted to do the right thing.”

All food donations will be delivered to the Southeast Texas Food Bank, an area charity that helps distribute food to about 12,000 households each month with member agencies.  In the State of Texas, 1 in every 4 children lives in poverty and about 15% of the elderly in Southeast Texas live in poverty.

“Everything we do at Modica Bros is based upon integrity,” explains Lanny.  “And this is just another extension of that.  Whether it’s Wounded Warriors or the Food Drive, we just want to do our part.”

Founded over 40 years ago, Modica Bros Tire and Wheel Superstores has strived not only to make a difference in the automotive industry but also in the areas home to each of their nine locations.

“Modica Bros has always been about family,” confides CEO and founder J.C. Modica.  “Not just our family as a team at each location, but the way we are tied in with each of our customers and even with all the people of our communities.  We’re all Texans, and if we can do anything to help another Texan, you know we are going to do it.”

Individuals are encouraged to stop by and drop off non-perishable food items at any Modica Bros location anytime Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7:30 A.M. and 5:30 P.M and on Saturday from 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.  Each location is closed on Sunday.

Modica Bros has two locations in Beaumont and other superstores in Vidor, Orange, Nederland, Groves, Jasper, Silsbee, and Woodville, and may be reached online at www.ModicaBros.com or by calling (409) 842-1794.

All Modica Bros locations specialize in sales and service for all tires and wheels, brakes, air conditioning, batteries, alignments, radiators, shocks, struts, suspension, tire rotation, wheel mounting, oil changes, and other general auto maintenance.

King Mohammed VI’s Message At The Opening Session Of The 5th GES 2014

11/21/2014 (press release: media1press) // Morocco News Review

The fifth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES 2014) officially opened Thursday in Marrakesh under the theme, “Harnessing the Power of Technology for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.”

Held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the opening session of this global forum, held for the first time in an African country, was marked by the reading of a message from HM King Mohammed VI to the participants in this summit.

“We are proud that this Summit, which was launched in 2009 by President Barack Obama, is being held for the first time on African soil, thereby confirming the calling and ambition of the Kingdom, for which the promotion of its partnership with the African Continent is a well thought-out, irreversible choice”, said the Sovereign in a message read out at the opening session by head of government Abdelilah Benkirane.

The Sovereign also noted that “in keeping with its core values and basic principles, Morocco believes wholeheartedly in the Summit’s objectives,” pointing out that the Kingdom “has been devoting its energies to promoting human and sustainable development and investing in entrepreneurship.”

“My country also encourages the sharing of expertise and know-how in addition to the optimization of complementarities, particularly between the countries of the South”, went on the royal message.

The sovereign also urged African governments to “instill self-confidence in our young people so that they can believe in their ability to learn and to become entrepreneurs”, stressing the need to “nurture positive examples and turn success stories into models to emulate.”

“We must not confuse technological innovation with technical sophistication”, argued HM the King who explained that “the so-called low-tech innovations – just like more sophisticated technologies – can help us meet specific needs, especially in developing countries.”

The sovereign further pointed out that “innovations of this kind are often helpful in terms of supporting social development and improving the well-being of the population”, insisting that “innovation must not be the exclusive privilege of the rich and the upper classes.”

“Entrepreneurs may also want to turn their attention to low-income consumers, by offering them products and services that are both profitable and tailored to their needs”, HM the King recommended citing the telecommunications sector in Africa in which “through ingenuity and local innovation, specific services and innovative applications have been developed, to the great satisfaction of users.”

The royal message concluded by congratulating “all those who have helped make new interactions possible, here in Marrakech today, between policy makers, economic operators, civil society, academics and the media” and expressed satisfaction that the encounter “has brought together a large number of project developers, investors and young entrepreneurs from various backgrounds.”

Bay City Rollers Auction Ends in a Tie Due to Technical Glitch

11/20/2014 (press release: auctionfire) // Las Vegas, NV, USA // Sherry Arcos

It was a sign of growing pains when the upstart auction site known as Auction Fire hosted an auction that ended in a tie. The auction was for an engraved bracelet belonging to former Bay City Rollers band member Stuart “Woody” Wood. Several users got into a bidding war but two different people entered the same bid amount which caused an unsual glitch to occur.

Online Auctions rely on a proxy bid system which is Artificial Intelligence that tries to win the auction by incrementing bids as necessary until the maximum amount specified has been reached.  “I named our proxy bidder Bidbot,” says Aaron Bradley, the programmer for Auction Fire.  “Bidbot recommends unique bid amounts but in this case those recommendations were ignored and two users entered the same bid which led to a tie.”

The two high bidders weren’t exactly pleased with the perplexing result according to Stuart Wood’s wife Denise. “Yes a bit of a predicament to say the least,” she said when contacting Auction Fire support about the issue.  “We have thought it through and decided he engraves another bracelet and we give them one each at the amount they bid.”

Stuart Wood (known as Woody) still has a very loyal fan base even after 40 years on the rock n’ roll scene. He now has his own record label, The Music Kitchen, and produces and performs on many albums, mostly with a Celtic/Scottish vibe.  He offers merchandise and memorabilia for sale at his official website www.sjwood.co.uk.

Auction Fire is a free online auction marketplace that charges no listing fees or after auction fees. The website boasts over 22,000 verified sellers and has recently been recognized as one of the best online auction sites on Top Ten Reviews. It is quickly becoming a welcome refuge for disgruntled eBay sellers and people looking to advertise their website or products in a fun and friendly setting.  They will be hosting a contest this holiday season which challenges users to search through auctions to find Santa’s missing elves for a chance to win a prize.

Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Lauded as 2015 Green Truck of the Year

RAM_logo.jpg

11/20/2014 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // NATICK, Mass. // Brigham-Gill Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram

The Ford F-150 has stolen recent headlines after switching to a lightweight all-aluminum body for the 2015 model year, but that controversial move wasn’t enough to earn the vehicle the title of 2015 Green Truck of the Year from Green Car Journal. Instead, the honor went to the new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, which currently returns the highest highway fuel economy of any pickup truck in America while boasting an impressive 9,200-pound maximum towing capacity.

Housing a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque on tap while offering a 28-mpg highway rating. Beyond the fact that diesel fuel emits less CO2 than gasoline, the EcoDiesel unit features an oxidation catalyst that further reduces those harmful emissions. Capable of running on B20 biodiesel, it is also the only clean-diesel engine available on a half-ton truck. The editors at Green Car Journal recognized the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel for those environmentally friendly attributes, but the truck still had to deliver on traditional factors like versatility, functionality, safety, style and value before being named Green Truck of the Year.

“About a decade ago, the term ‘green truck’ was somewhat of an oxymoron because there weren’t fuel-efficient pickups that could provide the capability that buyers needed, but the new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel shows just how much things have changed,” said Richard Gill, owner of Brigham-Gill Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, a Ram dealer in Natick, Mass. “Even the staunchest pickup-truck purists are buying the EcoDiesel, and those strong sales are leading to a real environmental impact out on the road.”

The popularity of the EcoDiesel model recently prompted the Chrysler Group to double production of the truck, boosting it to 20 percent of the manufacturing mix for the Ram 1500. Last month, overall sales of Ram pickup trucks rose by 33 percent compared to October 2013, totaling 39,834 units. Nearly 360,000 of the brand’s pickups have found new homes through the first 10 months of 2014, a 23 percent increase over the same period last year.

J.D. Power: MINI Is Tops in Sales Satisfaction for Fifth Straight Year

MINI_logo.png

11/20/2014 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // BEDFORD, N.H. // MINI of Bedford

According to J.D. Power, overall sales satisfaction has increased at auto dealerships across the country during the past year, but MINI still has the most satisfied customers of any mainstream brand. For the fifth straight year, MINI led all mass-market brands in the auto researcher’s U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study after feedback was retrieved from 29,805 purchasers or lessees of new vehicles in April and May of 2014.

Examining each dealership that a customer visited, the 2014 J.D. Power SSI Study evaluated auto brands regardless of whether the final sale was made with them. The weight given to the satisfaction of actual buyers included working out the deal (17 percent), salesperson (13 percent), delivery process (11 percent) and facility (10 percent), while the criteria for rejecter satisfaction were salesperson (21 percent), experience negotiating (8 percent), fairness of price (8 percent), facility (7 percent) and variety of inventory (7 percent).

“With vehicle quality improving so much across the industry in recent years, auto brands need to go the extra mile to differentiate themselves, but thankfully for MINI, it has always done things differently, even when it comes to customer service,” said Gary King, general manager of MINI of Bedford, a New Hampshire MINI dealer. “Our customers feel like they’re talking with a fellow MINI enthusiast instead of a salesperson when they’re greeted by our Motoring Advisors, and that bond naturally leads to a satisfying sales experience.”

After determining buyer and rejecter satisfaction for its 2014 SSI Study, J.D. Power calculated a satisfaction score for each auto brand based on a 1,000-point scale. Earning 727 points this year, MINI’s leading score rose by 9 points compared to 2013. The brand hopes to attract even more satisfied customers into its dealerships next year following the January launch of the all-new MINI Hardtop 4 door.

About MINI of Bedford:

MINI of Bedford is the first and only MINI dealership in New Hampshire, and their team is excited to be bringing motoring fun to Granite State drivers. Shoppers who visit MINI of Bedford online at http://www.minibedford.com, or in person at 209 S. River Road in Bedford, NH, will find a huge selection of new and used MINI models. Plus, the arrival of MINI to New Hampshire means that convenient MINI service is just around the corner. For more information or to schedule a test-drive, their friendly staff can be reached at 603-637-2900.

Kicking-off the Morocco’s fifth Global Entrepreneurship Summit

11/20/2014 (press release: media1press) // Morocco News Review

The fifth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES 2014) opened this Wednesday in Morocco’s resort city of Marrakech.

This three-day summit, held in partnership between Morocco and the United States, brought together more than 3,000 business leaders and politicians from around the world, with a focus on the role of technology in innovation and entrepreneurship. The holding of this Summit was decided by HM the King and President Obama during the Sovereign’s visit to Washington in November 2013, the aim being to set innovation, an essential source of competitiveness, as a top priority of this Initiative and encourage the establishment of a strategy for inclusive growth.

It is also part of the willingness of both Heads of State to develop a strategic triangular cooperation in Africa, particularly in the fields of access to energy and food security.

The fifth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit opened with a special tribute to women entrepreneurs by celebrating the “Women’s Entrepreneurship Day” (WED/Nov. 19), a global movement to celebrate, empower and support women entrepreneurs worldwide.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 5th edition Global Entrepreneurship Summit, US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker hailed the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI in encouraging entrepreneurship and women entrepreneurs, noting that Morocco’s achievements in  this area are “truly fantastic”.

Pritzker said she was “delighted” to take part in this international event, the first of its kind in the African continent. The US senior official also welcomed the efforts made by Morocco to enhance business climate as part of an “absolutely attractive approach” for the  American business community, especially in light of the 2006 free trade  agreement between Rabat and Washington which is a foundation for further  business partnerships.

US Secretary of Commerce highlighted US businesses readiness to invest in Morocco, a country with favorable business environment, as evidenced by the  presence in the Kingdom of some 150 US companies which ensure around 100,000  jobs.

In this respect, she noted that Morocco attracts both large multinational corporations and small US companies that provide their services and expertise.

Concerning Morocco’s win-win partnership strategy in Africa, Pritzker said  that Morocco and the US can “certainly” work together in order to strengthen  this virtuous circle, thanks to HM the King’s vision to make the Kingdom  Africa’s hub and a gateway.

US Secretary of Commerce added that she appreciates the role of Moroccan women  entrepreneurs as evidenced by the strong female participation in the GES in  Marrakesh, recalling in this context that the Obama administration works to  promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the world.

The opening of Fifth Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Marrakech at which US Vice President Joe Biden is slated to deliver the keynote address, coincided with a meeting at the Royal Palace in Fez between HM King Mohammed VI and the US Vice President at an audience attended by diplomatic and political leaders from both countries.

The talks between HM the King and the US Vice President focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Morocco and the USA.

The talks also touched on the latest developments of the Moroccan Sahara issue, as well as regional and international issues, particularly the situation in the Sahel and the Middle East, including the Arab-Israeli conflict.
